Offshore Processing of Refugees

By: Pete Horsley on: 13.08.06

The issue of Offshore Processing of Refugees is before parliament at the moment.

This could potentially see children back into mandatory detention (just when we've seen the end of this injust act) and adults who are legitimately seeking asylum put into detention. Is it a case of out of sight, out of mind? Below you will find the emails for the key dissenting Liberals and a couple of Independents who've taken a stand - I encourage you to take some time this week and send them an email encouraging their stand for justice.

There's a couple of avowed Christians in Parliament who've said nothing on this issue – it might be worth challenging them to act in the interests of the alien (Bible term for refugee)

2. Senator Louise Markus (attends Hillsong Church) louise.markus.mp@aph.gov.au;

Dear Mr Georgio,
Thank you for your courageous speech and the strength of your position demonstrated in Parliament today. My wife and I are grateful for politicians who represent moral courage in the face of action which would surely lessen the value of democracy and compassion in the Australian context. Thank you for your decision to place individual conscience, ethics and moral responsibility before Party policy. What would not be allowed to happen to our families and children should not be allowed for the most vulnerable of citizens from elsewhere. We are a privileged, enlightened nation with the ability to think, act and express global good. Justice and simple humanity demand that we must respond with compassion. Thank you very sincerely, STEVE & LENETTE DRURY - Sydney
